2015 Women's Collegiate Triathlon Season Scoring and Invitation Criteria By RM // June 29, 2015 Four draft-legal races will make up the 2015 Women’s Collegiate Triathlon Season. The goal of this raceseason is to provide high level draft-legal race opportunities for female triathletes. The Season will be anexhibition, where all races will follow a race structure and criteria as outlined in the NCAA EmergingSport Proposal. The 2015 Women’s Collegiate Triathlon Season will be invitation only, and will support the followingscoring and invitation criteria. Eligible Age: Athletes must be between the ages of 16 and 25, by December 31, 2015, to be eligible forparticipation in the 2015 Women’s Collegiate Triathlon Series. Team Size: Athletes may compete as an individual or as part of a team. Maximum team size will be ten (10) athletes. Team size as it applies to team scoring: A minimum of three (3) athletes is required for team scoring. Only the first five (5) finishing athletes for one team can go towards displacement in team scoring and automatic team qualification for the National Championship. Pleaserefer to “Team Scoring” below for additional details. SCORING Two kinds of scoring will exist; overall and team finish. Scoring will follow the cross country system,where the lowest score will win. OVERALL SCORING All triathletes who finish the race will be given an overall finish place starting with the first place athletereceiving a score of “1.” TEAM SCORINGTeam scoring will adhere to the following process: Disclaimer: Minor changes to this document may occur by USA Triathlon in order to administer a safe, fair, andcompetitive Season. Teams finishing at least three (3) athletes are eligible for team scoring. No more than five (5)athletes on one team may count towards team scoring. Score will be determined by the total points of the first three finishing triathlete’s of each team. Although the fourth (4th) and fifth (5th) finishing triathletes on a team do not score points toward their team’s total, their places, if better than those of any of the first three finishers of anopposing team, serve to increase the overall place and subsequent team score of theopponents. 2015 REGIONAL QUALIFIER INVITATION PROCESS Invitations to any of the three (3) Regional Qualifiers will be extended to individuals in the followingorder of priority until a field of 75 athletes has been reached. Athletes of those institutions who are recipients of the USA Triathlon Women’s TriathlonEmerging Sport Grant. Any triathlete who is part of a USA Triathlon recognized Collegiate Club. A top ten (10) Junior Elite finish from the 2014 or 2015 Junior Elite National Championships in West Chester, OH. Those athletes approved through the “Special Request for Attendance” nomination process. Individuals and teams who wish to compete in multiple Regional Qualifiers must identify which RegionalQualifier will be used as the qualifying race for the National Championship. To do so, a representativemust notify Jess Luscinski at Jess.Luscinski@usatriathlon.org no later than September 1, 2015. SPECIAL REQUEST FOR ATTENDANCE PROCESS Athletes who wish to attend either a Regional Qualifier or National Championship, yet do not meet anyof the invitation criteria, may request a starting position in the race. Requests will be assessed on a caseby case basis and invitations will be distributed accordingly. An athlete must be nominated by a collegiate institution, representative, or a USA TriathlonCertified Coach. The nomination must include the following information: Race results from any 2014 or 2015 USA Triathlon Sanctioned race, or international race. Must include race name, date, number of competing athletes in age group, and location. Splits for Swim, Bike, and Run. Please note if this was a draft legal race. Any additional commentary as to why this individual should attend the race. All changes will be made public through USA Triathlon monthly updates and all registeredathletes and coaches will be notified personally by a USA Triathlon staff member. 2015 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP INVITATION PROCESS Invitations to the National Championship will be extended first to those through the “AutomaticQualification Process,” and then to those who receive an invitation through the “Allocation of RemainingStart Positions” until a field of 75 athletes has been reached. AUTOMATIC QUALIFICATION Athletes will automatically qualify for the 2015 Women’s Collegiate Triathlon National Championship byone of the following three automatic qualification processes: Athletes of those institutions who are recipients of the USA Triathlon Women’s TriathlonEmerging Sport Grant. Individual Automatic Qualification a. The top five (5) individual athletes from each Regional Qualifier, who aren’t represented on a qualifying team, will earn an automatic qualification for the NationalChampionship. Individual automatic qualification will follow the process outlined below: i. The order for individual automatic qualification is established by removing alltriathletes included in the top four (4) teams. An individual finish place will thenbe assigned to each athlete from lowest to highest points, with the first placeathlete receiving a position of “1,” second place athlete receiving a position of“2,” etc. 3. Team Automatic Qualification The top four (4) teams to finish from each of the 2015 Women’s Collegiate Triathlon Regional Qualifiers, based off the team scoring process described under the “Scoring” section will earn an automatic qualification for the National Championship. A maximum of five (5) athletes per team can qualify through the team qualification process. Team members not in the top five finishers will be classified as an individualfinisher and eligible for Individual Automatic Qualification. ALLOCATION OF REMAINING STARTING POSITIONS If starting positions remain after the automatic qualification process, allocation of the remaining startingpositions will be extended to those who meet any of the following criteria, in no particular order: Any athlete who is nominated through the “Special Request for Attendance” process outlinedon the previous page. A top thirty (30) finish in the 2015 Collegiate Club National Championship Draft-Legal SprintRace in Clemson, SC. A top thirty (30) finish in the 2015 Collegiate Club National Championship Olympic Distance Racein Clemson, SC.
