  • RM:  How many years have you been competing?
    I've been competing in triathlon since high school, so that would make 6 years of fun!

  • RM:  What have been some of the craziest things you have witnessed while training, competing or traveling?
    In 2015 when I was racing IRONMAN 70.3 Santa Cruz an ITU athlete from Europe and I were going back and forth for the entire bike. As we hit the final downhill at mile 50 I decided to empty the bladder for the closely approaching half marathon leg. Half way through the act I notice Mr. Europe to my left doing the exact same thing. We both laugh and decide to give each other a fist bump going down a steep Santa Cruz hill at 40 MPH while at the same time peeing on our bikes, it was memorable to say the least!

  • RM:  What fuels your competitiveness? What color do you feel the fastest in?
    I love to better myself in all aspects of my life, my desire to compete against myself fuels my competitiveness in the sport. Definitely Black/Red/White, "totally" not correlated with my bike color... 

  • RM:  How has your approach changed from the beginning of the season to the end to make you a better at each stage as you head to nationals?
    Extreme consistency with the 6 weeks leading up to nationals. Always have to fight the urge to take a day off when you're not supposed to. 

  • RM:  What is your goal as you head to nationals? First out of the water? Top 10? Best split?
    Like any race I come back to for the nth time, I want to first preform at 100% my ability and with that beat all previous splits. Beating other athletes is nice, but I first want to beat my previous self. 

  • RM:  How are you feeling? Did you have any injuries you had to over come? Are you peaking at the right time?
    Due to one leg being slightly longer than the other, I have genetically and physically had to overcome many runner related issues and injuries. My running legs could be better but yet again they have been worse and I am hoping to pull out something unexpectedly fast at Nationals.

  • RM:  What is your long view? Where do you see yourself in a few years? Still competing? Working professionals?
    I will always compete in triathlon and hope to dabble in a few Ironman triathlons after graduation. I hope to one day become a pharmacist or a pharmaceutical chemist with my degree.

  • RM:  When you think about Nationals... what gets you the most excited? The most anxious? Instills the most concern?
    The atmosphere of the event. I love how every one, from every team, feels a sense of unity with their team and with others outside the team as everyone has worked hard to prepare themselves for the biggest day in colligate triathlon. It's a great feeling looking at your team mates beside you, the ones you have spent countless hours training with, and know that they are just as excited/nervous/stoked as you are!

  • RM:  What equipment changes have you made through the year and most importantly as you head to Nationals?
    The only changes I've made are switching my shoes to Hokas. The extra cushion really gives me peace of mind when in comes to additional running injuries and it's been working out great thus far! 

  • RM:  Training secrets? Care to share? Favorite quote?
    Find other's slightly faster than you and chase them!

  • RM:  What do you geek out on besides Triathlon?
    I'm a pretty big airsoft and video game geek. I always enjoy having an hour to unwind with a good video game before the next hard day of training and work/school.

  • RM:  Do you have a dream race you want to create?
    400 Meter swim, 25 Mile Bike, 1 Mile Run. That be awesome.
